1. In order to treat a specific skin condition or skin type you really need several skin care products (and ingredients) to reverse damage or get your skin in a more healthy state.
2. The basic skin care program for acne skin is:
A. Cleanser.
B. Toner used only to spot treat oily or blemishes.
C. Retionl in a very mild strength and formulation, applied all over face, neck, chest and in some cases your back and upper arms.
D. Medicated facial scrub (used sparingly, to 3 x's per week or mixed with cleanser and used a few times a week).
E. Acne spot treat or mask applied to oily or blemished skin, used sparingly.
F. Light moisturizer or aloe to use at night when skin is flaky or dry from overuse of acne spot treatment or to spot treat on dry areas of the face and neck.
G. Sun protection as a daily morning moisturizer.
3. The skin can only handle a certain amount of product at one time, so you don't have to use every product, every day.
4. Go slow when introducing new products to your skin. I normally recommend an every other night application of treatment products to the skin when starting a skin program. Then, after your skin has adjusted to the new product you can gradually build up to every night, then every night and every morning.
5. Another really good trick [if your layering several products on your skin] is to wait 5-10 minutes in between layers to let the product work its way into the skin. (This is an especially good technique for skin that is sensitized, allergy-prone skin or rosacea skin).
