The Anti-Acne Skin Regimen:

Is your acne starting to affect your personality? Try these anti-acne tips:

Tip #1:

Pimples are sneaky. It seems they pop-up out of nowhere with absolutely no rhyme or reason. Realize the pimples that appear next week are actually working their way onto the top layer of your skin today.

If you tend to get blemishes all over your face rather than a specific spot (like your chin), apply a blemish treatment all over your face, not just on existing pimples.

Acne ingredients worth trying:

1. Sulfur: An anti-inflammatory and disinfectant that reduces sebaceous gland activity and exfoliates by drying dead surface cells.

2. Benzoyl Peroxide: An ingredient in acne skin care that causes cell turnover, oxygenates the skin and has antibacterial properties.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide: Kills bacteria on contact.

4. Azelaic  Acid: Antibacterial and skin lightening agent.

5. Mushroom Extract: Antibacterial and light skin exfoliator.

Tip #2:

If your breakouts seem totally random, try using a skin journal (similar to a food, exercise or gratitude journal). You may be able to tract, monitor and pinpoint the timing of your breakouts.

A skin journal is also useful if you incorporate other daily activities that affect your skin such as:

1. Daily water intake.

2. Stress level.

3. Dairy, gluten, alcohol, sugar and other food and drink intake.

4. menstrual cycle.

5. Sleep patterns.

Tip #3:

Recognize that almost all acne regimens can dry out your skin, especially in a dry, cold and windy climate. You may want to try one or more of these remedies if your skin gets too tight and dry from acne products:

1. Switch to a milder cleanser. One that is detergent and sulfate free.

2. Use moisturizer more frequently or switch to a different formula.

3. Add essential fatty acids to your diet.

4. Discontinue acne medications for 2-3 days to give your skin a break from all of the drying products.

5. Use spring water or install a water filer in your home. Tap water can be drying and irritating to some skin.
