Your body's lymph system is one of the major functions in maintaining body and skin health-- and a major factor is preserving skin hydration.
When the lymphatic system is working properly it helps move and eliminate waste and plays a vital role in cell renewal and repair as well as important for preserving skin cell hydration, wound (acne) healing and general anti-aging functions.
Two easy things you can do to keep skin hydrated and lymphatic system working:
1. Intake of fluid in the body from water-rich foods, liquids, broths or spring water.
2. Daily or regular body movement (any form of exercise/massage/lymphatic drainage technique).
Signs you may have an impaired lymphatic system:
~ Swelling of the ankles, feet and fingers.
~ Puffy eyes in the morning.
~ Fatigue or heaviness feeling in the limbs (heavy legs and fluid retention).
If you suspect an impaired lymphatic system you can perform a quick way to test for fluid retention using the simple toxaemia test:
* Using your pointer finger, do a very firm press on the swelling for 30 seconds then a quick release. Count how long it takes for shape and color to return to the depressed area. (If you've counted over 3 seconds the probability you have an impaired lymphatic system is high).
Follow these tips to improve your lymphatic system and the ability of your skin to stay hydrated:
~ Take a 20 minute daily walk.
~ Sleep with legs elevated by 4 inches by using several pillows or blankets propped-up under your ankles.
~ Practice yoga; specifically the pose "legs of the wall".
~ Dry skin brushing prior to shower or bath.
~ Reduce or eliminate salt intake.
~ Increase water intake even if you think you drink enough water.
~ Use support stockings.
